Short Bio
Diego Trenas graduated from the Master of Fine Arts in Cinematography from the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, thanks to an all-expenses-covered Obra Social “la Caixa” Fellowship. In California he shot for Netflix “The Redeem Team”, which won the Best Outstanding Long Documentary award at the 2023 44th Annual Sports Emmy Awards. Back in Spain he continued developing in narrative projects, documentaries, commercials and music videos. He was the DoP of “One Night With Adela”, a film that made its world premiere at New York’s 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Best New Narrative Director award. Later that same year, Diego got nominated for Best Cinematography at the 38th Premios Goya for this film. He also lensed the documentary “This Excessive Ambition”, that follows the life and work of the Spanish star C. Tangana, premiered in the San Sebastian International Film Festival in September 2023, and later got nominated for Best Long Documentary at the 38th Premios Goya 2024. In 2024 he did the cinematography of “El Mal”, the last film of the prestigious director Juanma Bajo Ulloa, and of “Drea & Cloe”, the first film of the young director Álvaro Ortiz, both films to be released in 2025. His last documentary as a cinematographer, “La Guitarra Flamenca de Yerai Cortés”, directed by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana) and currently in theatres, has been nominated for Best Long Documentary at the 39th Premios Goya 2025. He combines his passion for narrative with a wide variety of challenging commercial projects.
His vocation for the film industry originated at a very early age, when his mother, a painter and journalist, explained what his father did for a living: “On any movie set, the cinematographer is the most artistic of all technicians and the most technical of all artists. Cinematography beautifully combines creativity and technique”.
