Short Bio

Diego Trenas is a Spanish cinematographer based in Madrid. He graduated from the Master of Fine Arts in Cinematography from the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, thanks to an all-expenses-covered Obra Social “la Caixa” Fellowship. In California he shot for Netflix ‘The Redeem Team’, which won the Best Outstanding Long Documentary award at the 2023 44th Annual Sports Emmy Awards. Back in Spain he continued developing in narrative projects, documentaries, commercials and music videos. His last film as a DoP, “One Night With Adela”, made its world premiere at New York’s 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Best New Narrative Director award. “This Excessive Ambition”, his last documentary as a DoP that follows the life and work of the Spanish star C. Tangana, was acquired by Movistar Plus and presented in the San Sebastian International Film Festival in September 2023.

His vocation for the film industry originated at a very early age, when his mother, a painter and journalist, explained what his father did for a living: “On any movie set, the cinematographer is the most artistic of all technicians and the most technical of all artists. Cinematography beautifully combines creativity and technique”.
